Cops arrest woman having miscarriage

This came up on the baby forums I frequent these days, and naturally a bunch of mothers are outraged. But for the wrong reasons.
http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/16584384.htm
A woman was spotted putting fake temp tags in her car, and when officers pulled her over she told them she was bleeding or miscarrying, after they questioned her about the tags. She repeatedly tells them she's bleeding. Officers discover she has no ID, suspended license, multiple warrants, and arrest her. The following morning she is taken to the hospital, where she "delivers" a baby (at 3 or 4 months gestation) that dies.
I feel it necessary to point out here that she did not deliver a pre-term baby, by medical terminology. This is a miscarriage, plain and simple. Yes, it's tragic. But probably wasn't preventable. Nobody can say for sure.

So my repeat readers will know, feisty little Bunny has to jump in and point out the fallacies of the cop-hater logic (illogic), and point out the obvious sensationalism of the story 'spin'. Thought you guys would like to read the story as well. Debate away, and I will probably respond to your arguments on this one.

It's a tough situation for everybody. I sympathize with the woman who lost her baby, I can't imagine what she's going through emotionally right now. At the same time, I watched the video of the stop and at no time I saw any red spots on her pants that would back up her claim that she was miscarrying. I am a little surprised that the officers didn't take her to the hospital, just to cover their own asses, but I didn't see any willful negligence.

I really shouldn't touch this with a ten foot pole. I watched the video several times and I always go by those three little letters: CYA! I would have called a medic unit. She wouldn't be going anywhere. The hospitals have always been good about letting us know when a patient is going to be released.

I'm an ER nurse, my fiancee is a cop. We both saw the tape and agree that the officers should have called for ems. The warrants and tags can be sorted out later. As a previous posted said CYA!

The officer was wrong on this one...no matter what when there is the possibility of a woman losing a child help should immediately be called. After help was summoned and then it was determined by someone in the medical field that she was okay, and not miscarrying, then he can slap the cuffs on all he wanted.

I had a partner pull over a car containing a woman in the exact same circumstance. she was complaining of massive bleeding from "down there" she was high on pills and kept trying to have us just let her go. I had him call ems, and thinking she would get out of trouble she agreed to go with them to the hospital. I had my partner fallow the ambulance and when the doctors said there was nothing wrong and she was lying to us, she was discharged and arrested. I've had many women pull this little trick and that is how I always handle it.

boy, CYA is way right. I just hope other people learn from the situation.
